The Resurrection was Distorted Later

Common Skeptic Claims

Could the facts of the resurrection have been distorted later?

Some people claim “that the original observations of the disciples were amplified and distorted as legend  over time after the death of Jesus”.

P1. In the earliest accounts of the disciples’ activity after the crucifixion, they are seen citing the resurrection as the primary piece of evidence for their faith that Jesus was God.

P2. From the earliest days of the Christian movement, eyewitnesses were making the claims of what the New Testament teaches.

P3. The students of the disciples were also recording that the resurrection was a key component of the disciple’s eyewitness testimony.

P4. The earliest known Christian creed or oral record (1st Corinthians 15) includes the resurrection as the key component.

For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve. 6 Then he appeared to over five hundred brothers and sisters at one time; most of them are still alive, but some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one born at the wrong time, he also appeared to me. -- 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 (CSB)

P5. This explanation also fails to account for the empty tomb and the missing body of Jesus.

C: These evidences oppose the idea that the resurrection was a later distortion such as the common oral legends that this claim tries to put Christianity in. It is unreasonable to make this claim.
